It was February 2012 when I found out that my little kiddo had skin asthma. I was really saddened when her pedia informed me about her condition. This is actually new to me and I didn’t knew this type of illness exists.
So what is it all about? Skin asthma is more commonly known as eczema or Atopic dermatitis. It is a skin condition that has allergic features. It is non-contagious and characterized by chronic inflammation of the skin. The skin appears red, flaky, scaly inflamed patches, and this can be very itchy. This condition can also appear as cracked skin or as small white bumps. In worst cases, scaling and thickening of the skin is common.
One of the primary locations that skin asthma appears is around the body’s joints. Elbows, knees and knuckles are typical places for flareups. Skin asthma also tends to crop up symmetrically; if there is an itchy patch on the inside of your right elbow, it’s likely there is also one on your left elbow, too. Other places that skin asthma can show up is the scalp, around the eyes, mouth, hands, feet and body trunk.
Aside from relying on steroids (which is by the way not a very healthy regimen), my daughter’s pedia advised that I should try Cetaphil products such as Cetaphil Restoraderm Skin Restoring Body Moisturizer and Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. Kimy’s skin must stay moisturized so I need to apply the moisturizer on her whole body twice a day, or as needed. This moisturizer is formulated for very dry itchy skin, and helps restore skin barrier. The Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser on the other hand will serve as her soap for her whole body, it is mild enough to cleanse her delicate skin.
After regular use of Cetaphil Restoraderm Skin Restoring Body Moisturizer and Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, we saw great improvement on my daughter’s skin. Both works very well at soothing and moisturizing her skin — it went from cracked itchy skin to almost perfect skin! Cetaphil seems to work better on her skin than any other products we tried for Atopic dermatitis. I am so grateful for Cetaphil products!
Anyway, Cetaphil Philippines is so generous that they gave me a big box full of Cetaphil products for me and my baby to try on. Yes, you read it right! They’re really heaven sent! I never expected that they will send me all of these! Lookie!
